Copperbelt Tailings Re-treatment Projects

The Copperbelt Tailings Projects represent a bold and innovative initiative to transform waste into value in Kitwe, Zambia , while delivering meaningful environmental and community benefits to the city by reprocessing tailings accumulated over decades of mining activity.

Since 2005, over 200 million tonnes of copper and cobalt-rich waste material have been identified in surface tailings. These resources represent not only a valuable source of metals critical to the global energy transition but also a significant environmental opportunity to rehabilitate and repurpose longstanding waste sites that affect local communities.

In 2020, Horizon Corporation entered into a joint venture with AIM-listed Jubilee Metals Group Plc, a partnership that has brought operational synergies through Jubilee’s established Zambian operations.
